Innovative Solutions in Minimally Envasive Urological Surgeries
Overview
Abnus Tech is a technology development company in life sciences. The first product of the company is an Intra-Corporeal Pneumatic Lithotripsy System, that is currently undergoing regulatory approval before market entery. It awaits approval from HealthCanada.

Endoscopic lithotripsy
Urinary stones are the third most common disease of the genitourinary system after urinary tract infection and prostate disease.
Urinary stones are single or multiple and vary in shape and size that are concentrated in the renal parenchyma or urinary collection system.
The ureter is one of the most important parts of the urinary system in terms of the severity of symptoms and the rate of destruction of kidney function
If the ureteral stones are less than 4 mm, they usually pass well through the ureter, but with a size of more than 6 mm, they can rarely pass spontaneously.
Endoscopic lithotripsy refers to the visualization of a calculus in the urinary tract and the simultaneous application of energy to fragment the stone or stones into either extractable or passable pieces. Different methods of lithotripsy are less dependent on the type of the stone. Endoscopic lithotripsy can be performed using spinal anesthesia or general anesthesia and requires minimal hospitalization compared to more invasive open stone surgeries. In pneumatic lithotripsy, stone is treated in kidney ureter and bladder, using ballistic technology endoscopically.
Laser lithotripsy
laser lithotripsy, is highly effective, but its high cost and the difficulty in fragmenting calcium oxalate monohydrate and cystine stones are major disadvantages.
Pneumatic lithotripsy
Pneumatic lithotripsy uses vibrating mechanical force to break the stone. It may have a lower risk of ureteral perforation when compared with laser lithotripsy
Ultrasonic lithotripsy
Ultrasonic lithotripsy success rates basically seem to be determined by the density of the calculus, where stones with rounded, smooth surfaces such as uric acid or calcium oxalate monohydrate respond poorly.
Disadvantages include heat production at probe tip. Probes are usually large in diameter and therefore cannot be used in treatment of ureteric stones.
